Adventure's Kiss

alone

her silhouette was mirrored in the window
her shoulders slightly slumped
she had been waiting there all afternoon.

finishing her lunch she had walked
over to the big bay window
stood staring into space
and now it was almost four-o'clock.

the house was as quiet as golden wheat
standing silent in the afternoon sun
if she squinted her eyes really tight
she could almost see her sister
coming down the curving country road.

the house had been much too silent
with her mother and baby sister asleep
her father out pitching hay for the horses
and the hired girl outside weeding the garden
she felt like an abandoned kitten.

staring down the dusty road
she finally saw the funny cap her sister wore
appearing over the horizon
excitedly she shifted from foot to foot
as the figure of her sister
loomed larger and larger
and was finally running towards the house
and her.

it had been a very long wait
she was only four-years-old.

Heart of my Heart

Heart of my Heart
Corazon de mi Corazon
The lilting voice of an ebony haired senorita
floats by on a perfumed breeze
Singing songs of enraptured nightingales
about the bittersweet tales of love.

The melodic blending of acoustic guitars
        with their soulful, haunting moods
Pull at us; drawing us intimately close,
touching the boundaries of our minds.
Entreating us with timbres from distant lands,
envisioning a time and place unknown.
Our eyes drift closed to dream of those far off lands
Where peace and beauty and joy abound.

The romance and gallantry of the mariachis is mesmeric
as they sing their amorous songs of desire
To ladies who enchant them with alluring smiles,
holding their fantasies close to their hearts.

Songs of love and seasons of yesteryear gone by
romantic tales of exotic and hypnotic lands.
These enchantments mystify and captivate us,

Letting us wander through rainbows of gold.

Adventure's Kiss

Soaring on clouds
as soft as a lover's breath
feathery as a lamenting breeze
easing into the embracing arms
of the teal blue sea.

Adventure's kiss is as thrilling
as the morning's kiss on my eyelids
or sweet like nectar to the honeybee
and pleasing as a sweet-scented gardenia
with petals opening to inhale the world.

My heart quickens with anticipation
when my love is absent (abounding)
its magnetism creates an everlasting bond
intoxicating my soul
unsettling my psyche.

It's like a lone candle
lighting the ebony night
or fireflies gleaming
in a roomful of dreams
spinning me off to celestial shores.

Adventure's kiss compels me
as the sun (springs forth) rises each dawn
and the moon spills gleaming luster
its magic is woven
into the fabric of my being.
