I CALLED YOU MY BUTTER COOKIE

MAGNOLIA CHARM

TODAY

I CALLED YOU MY BUTTER COOKIE

I know them way back, packed
in the supermarket, stacks after stacks
labeled blue, each blue can
our big city's favorite, wrapped in red
spring's warmest gift.

It must have been your baby blues, or me
overwhelmed in a scent
so flattering, in a way
so sweet, it caters my court,
your ship.

Crunchy touches, sugar on top, taste
on my tongue, the best flavor
unlocked – the best thing I know from your country –
all these golden pieces of loveliness
sink in memories.

MAGNOLIA CHARM
Spring awakened a morning of blossoms;
the evidence of night color drained
like a moon governing tide.

Low on a magnolia tree, at the crossroads
of branches, a flower, no less strong in color
than those canopied above, spread its
paddle fan pedals richly in pearl and pink.

The approach of a late afternoon sun
teased the flower into full openness
before the slippers of night passed
satin hands over its surface, folding it
into rest; a far greater sight than
kings and glory.

TODAY
Today is today
Tomorrow is tomorrow
I will make the most
of today and do my best
to be a blessing to others.

Yesterday is past
and the memories last
but today is today
I will try to find a
hidden treasure.

Today is today
and I will try
to live it to the fullest
and make the most
of each and every moment

Yesterday can never
be retrieved
Tomorrow is a dream
a goal and a plan
I will not live in fear.         — Eve J. Blohm
