The Backyard Feeder

Tail-Wagging Love

The Keys to Heaven's Gate

A Line in the Sand

The Backyard Feeder

Filled with berries, fruit, nuts and seed,
our bird feeder is there to fulfill a need.
A chubby robin comes to investigate.
The feeder swings underneath his weight.
A regular visitor is our little Carolina wren,
who swallows his meal worms whole and then,
A mockingbird is visitor number three,
as he confiscates a fresh blueberry.
A flock of noisy starlings frighten away
our proud and colorful Mr. Blue jay.
To an avid bird watcher, it is plain to see,
Who enjoys the feeder most is not the birds, but me.

Tail-Wagging Love
He has long floppy ears
and a shrill little bark.
And he loves to go
for a walk in the park.
A wet nose, big brown eyes,
and four little paws.
He loves and adores us
in spite of our flaws.
We needn't hide behind
a thinly veiled disguise.
For we're the perfect people
seen through his eyes.
We think of him as
our sweet Benjy boy.
Adopting him into our home
has brought us so much joy.
He must have been sent to us
by an angel from above,
so we could know what it's like
to feel tail-wagging love.

The Keys to Heaven’s Gate
Christian is the only life I can endorse.
His guidance helps me stay the course.
I need not worry over this earthly plight,
For I am covered by His heavenly light.

I hold the keys that will open Heaven’s gate,
Because His sacrifice has sealed my fate.
Since He died and rose from an empty tomb,
In my eternal home, He’s reserved my room.

A Line in the Sand
Lord, You have drawn a line in the sand,
A line between evil and good,
A line I am not allowed to cross,
Yet I don’t always do as I should.

On one side stands the tempter.
His trap is baited, ready to ensnare.
On the other side stands the Lamb.
Your heart is overflowing with loving care.

Satan is beckoning to me.
His lure is beginning to entice.
Please, Lord, come and rescue me,
So I don’t fall prey to his clever device.

I’m still on Your side, Lord,
But my toes are touching the line.
I feel I’m teetering on the brink,
Torn between evil and the divine.

Instead of one step forward,
Help me to take two steps back.
Lend me Your competent strength
So I can stand against Satan’s attack.

I know there will be times
When You will have to stay my foot again.
But two steps back are not enough
When I would really rather take ten.

You have come through
As You always do.
I have just taken ten,
And I can only say…Amen.
