Frog plops in
    garden pond—
        Moon ripples grow.

isle royale

Wolf laughter—
    Voice ripples
        across the night.

northern burnett county

Wolves howling,
    Moon’s goose bumps—
        Shivering stars.

soul medication

Chickadee’s
    winter song—
        Patch of blue sky.

liquid sky fruit

Blueberry
    Summer skies—
        Drip sweet raindrops.

greenstone ridge

Wolf’s sharp howl
    slices Night—
        into day light.

feathered angler

Heron prints
    near the shore—
        Patient legs fish.

White whirling
    wavering
        Winds weep with Night!

He listens
    to the snow—
        each flake a song.

* Ryokan was a great Japanese monk (1758-1831) who was loved dearly by the Japanese, especially the children.
